I love to take walks in the early morning to commune with nature and especially nature’s God. I have a particular trail I like to take which is close to my home. There, I often see marvelous sights: clouds, trees, rabbits, turkey vultures, hawks, road runners, coyotes and rattlesnakes. One tremendous treat I get from time to time is a deer sighting.
I never see them when I expect to; their presence is always a shock and, by no coincidence at all, an affirmation that God is near. Really. I don’t think I’m over-spiritualizing it to say so, but when I am having a breakthrough in my prayer time, or need that special reminder of His presence, there, all of a sudden, is a doe or a buck. Usually they see me before I see them. Or, we’re mutually startled. Either way, I get to watch them momentarily freeze then gracefully float away. What magnificent creatures!
